El SIAP desarrolló breves descripciones monográficas e ilustradas que explican las características básicas de diversos alimentos agrícolas, pecuarios y pesqueros producidos en México. Los textos incluyen nombre científico, características físicas, condiciones edáficas y clima, forma en que se siembra, historia, consumo, nombre común y aportaciones culturales, entre otros rasgos, con el objetivo de que el usuario obtenga información detallada de los alimentos que consumimos del campo y mar mexicanos.
